Song for the Doomed
There's war in the air, blood in their eyes, graves in the ocean, spies in the skies
shove pills down our throats, no matter the age, shove lies in our ears, lock us up in a cage
Do I haul away? Do I haul away, do I haul away or do I stay and fight?
Distress in every corner, unrest in every town, there's a black wind surely blowin', and rumbles underground
War-mongers got the bankers, greed-heads got the reins, the bomb's back on the table, the coal's back on the train
Do I haul away? Do I haul away, do I haul away or do I stay and fight?
Sell our land to the gas man, sell our water to Nestle, buy it back and plastic bottles, toss it away in the sea
Fractures are growing, the ice is getting thin, the fog is getting thicker, the walls are closing in
Do I haul away? Do I haul away, do I haul away or do I stay? Do I haul away, do I haul away, do I haul away or do I stay?
We hold our family tight through the dark and gloomy night, and hope for better days, and we all try to shine just a little bit of light, yeah we all try to shine just a little bit of light, come on, come on and shine just a little bit of light on the situation, come on and shine, shine, shine
STAND AND BE COUNTED
YOU CAN JOIN ME IN MY FREEDOM SONG.
BE ONE OF THE MILLIONS, MAKING FREEDOM STRONG.
JUST STAND UP AND BE COUNTED, AND YOU CAN TAKE YOU PLACE,
AS ONE OF THE MILLIONS TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
Chorus
AND YOU CAN STAND AND BE COUNTED.
SING AND GIVE YOUR HAND.
WORK HARD FOR PEACE THROUGHOUT THIS LAND. 2XS
YOU CAN STAND UP AND TAKE YOUR PLACE IN LINE.
WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU ALL OF THIS TIME.
YOU CAN JOIN THE CHORUS, THERE’S NO NEED TO BE SHY.
YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD A LITTLE IF YOU TRY.
chorus
SO MANY JOBS ARE WAITING, THERE’S SO MUCH TO BE DONE.
STOPPING NUCLEAR POWER, BRINGING OUT THE SUN.
TURNING SWORDS TO PLOWSHARES, IT’S PEACE CONVERSION TIME,
MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK, SO WHY DON’T YOU TAKE MINE.
chorus
Lion and Lamb
March in a lion
March out a lamb
Spring time is springing
All out again
Wind up your wrist watch
Brush out your mane
Put away your wool socks
Show face again
Let's lie together
Lion and lamb
Sweep off your door mat
Shake out your rug
Welcome dear neighbors
With a carefree hug
Hard times behind us
Hard times ahead
Center this moment
Content and fed
Let's lie together
Lion and lamb
With you as you are
Me as I am
Back into my drive
Load up your bed
Real good manure
That's what she said
Dig in the garden
Dip in a chip
Time for a potluck
Invite your friends
Let's lie together
Lion and lamb
With you as You Are
Me as I am
Who was that masked man
Who rode through town
Throwing out apples
Horsing around
A pile of wet words
Through which we sift
Curses and blessings
Count both as gifts
Let's lie together
Lion and lamb
With you as you are
Me as I am
Being who we are
Best that we can
Ready When You Are
What do you see when you turn out your lights
And close your eyes for sleep
Are you thinking of all those hot summer nights
We spent sharing the love was deep
You want me to hold you close in my arms
And let you go with him
And when I'm in awe of your obvious charms
I know it's a fact I can't win
So you can go you feel where you have to go
No matter how near or far
Because I will be waiting forever for you
And I'm ready when you are
I'm ready when you are
I'm ready when you want to come home
I'm ready to hold you tight
Because I love the way you that smile and you say babe
I want you tonight
What do I do while you're away
And know that you'd rather be here
And I can't change the way that I feel
I just want you to be near
But he's got something that you want
But I got the love that you need
So when you are lying there thinking of me
Just remember my plea
So you can go you feel where you have to go
No matter how near or far
Because I will be waiting forever for you
And I'm ready when you are
I'm ready when you are
I'm ready when you want to come home
I'm ready to hold you tight
Because I love the way you that smile and you say babe
I want you tonight
I'm ready when you are
Humboldt
Millions of geese swirling on the horizon
Over marsh land with big burly islands
No engine noise or street lights
No sirens, planes, or fireworks
Just peace, tranquility, and the chattering of birds
I'll take that peaceful winding highway up into the sky
Passed the tunnel into the blinding light
Surely if there's an afterlife
I hope I go to Humboldt when I die
In the Giant Sequoias as old as time
Where the angels homes sway in the light
Over crystal clear waters weaving to the bay
reflecting the sun set pink violet and grey
I'll take the peaceful redwood highway up into the sky
Passed the round about into the blinding light
Surely If there's an afterlife
I hope I go to Humboldt when I die
A visceral isthmus divides this world and the next
Some eagerly traverse up trails in their head
I don't pretend to know what lies around the bend
I walk the mystery patiently instead
I'll take that peaceful redwood highway up into the sky
Passed the round about into the blinding light
Surely If there's an afterlife
I hope I go to Humboldt when I die
Slopes of chanterelles, yellow feet, and reishi
Valleys and vistas like green rolling seas
No dams, mines or mills
No fences, gates, or highways
just the freedom to roam and be home where you lay
I'll take the peaceful redwood highway up into the sky
Passed the round about into the blinding light
Surely If there's an afterlife
I hope I go to Humboldt when I die
To North America like it used to be
like a second chance at harmony
in Humboldt when I die
Tale Of The Cleone
Lend me your ears and I'll tell you a tale - Bout a small mighty vessel no more to set sail.
She once brought the bounty, queen of the sea - now pulled from the waters where she once ran free.
(chorus)
Hail the lady the fisher Cleone - she once ruled the sea's Ft. Bragg to unknown.
The oceans she tamed, the fish she brough home, today, no longer to roam.
Born from the wood, on the land it was grown, by a man Frank J.Hyman, a place called Cleone.
Southward she rolled till she found her new home, into the Noyo a fishin she'll go....chorus
The fish she did slay, shellfish she claimed, families were fed and the crew earned their pay.
The ocean was kind as she found her own way, the sea's they claimed many, not Cleone till this day...chorus
The weather was windy, white caps on the bay, the sun shining bright on Cleone's last day.
Brought from the land, made of wood, built by hand. Hail the Cleone, as she makes her last stand.....chorus

Time To Grow
I am the light at the end of the tunnel
Watch me as I glow
I am the star within the night
Don’t hide me let me grow
It’s time to grow
I am the one that shines so bright
The one you’ve been waiting for
All you have to do is just
knock upon the door
It’s time to grow
Take the trip love Mother Earth
Show her what your really worth
Raise the vibe and we’ll never come down
Look inside and find where healings found
It’s time to grow
Play the seed. It’s time to sow
Give it love and let it grow
Then we’ll harvest once again
and turn it into medicine
It’s time to grow
Look how you’ve grown
It’s time to grow
I Told You So
I READ THE PAPER, JUST THE OTHER DAY.
AND I WAS SO SURPRISED THAT THEY FINALLY SAY
THE TRUTH THAT WE’VE KNOWN FOR SO MANY YEARS.
THE TRUTH THAT HAS CAUSED ME, CAUSED ME ALL THESE TEARS.
I USED TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING, AND GREET THE MORNING SUN.
I HAD A SMILE ON MY FACE FOR EVERY DAY THAT DAWNED.
BUT NOW I FEEL THE HEAT, I KNOW SOMETHING’S WRONG.
AND NOW THEY’RE TELLING ME, I GOT TO STAY INSIDE BECAUSE OF THE SUN?
chorus
I TOLD YOU SO, BUT YOU DIDN’T BELIEVE ME.
I TOLD YOU SO, BUT I GUESS YOU’LL
BELIEVE ME, BELIEVE ME,
OH, I GUESS THAT YOU’LL BELIEVE ME NOW.
`
YOU NEVER KNEW THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD
COULD LEAD YOU TO TRUTH.
SO YOU HAD TO GO AND SPOIL IT ALL.
THE ONENESS OF ALL THINGS IS LOST TO YOU.
BUT OH, REMEMBER THIS, AS THE GOOD EARTH WARMS.
AND AS YOUR BEACH HOUSE FLOATS AWAY ON THE RISING STORM:
BABY, YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CANNOT HIDE.
SO WHY DON’T YOU COME ON OUT, TRY TO TURN IT AROUND?
AT LEAST THEN YOU CAN SAY YOU TRIED.
chorus
I TOLD YOU SO, BUT I GUESS YOU’LL
BELIEVE ME, BELIEVE ME,
OH, I GUESS THAT YOU’LL BELIEVE ME NOW.
I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO. I TOLD YOU SO. I TOLD YOU SO.
Justice

REIGN UPON THIS LAND.
NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE. BRING US OUR RELEASE.
JUSTICE, OH JUSTICE, EVEN FOR POLICE.
NO PEACE WITHOUT JUSTICE. OH, HOW COULD IT BE?
JUSTICE, OH JUSTICE. OH GOD LET IT BE.
OH GOD LET IT BE.

My Own Religion
I’m getting ready to leave
Don’t know if I’ll return
You won’t be coming with me
Too sharp of a left-hand turn
I’m in an upstairs room
My suitcase almost made
The unknown journey looms
Someone threw a t-shirt over the shade
This divide
Even if I cross it with my soul
To the other side
You won’t be waiting there, I know
This is my own decision
This is my own religion
This is my own decision
To practice my own religion
I’ll stay here ’til night
Then it will be time and I’ll roll
Guided by star and moonlight
And the torch within my soul
The piece I carry with me
Is the good you bear in mind
The piece I leave behind…
The peace, I leave behind
This divide
Even if I cross it with my soul
To the other side
You won’t be waiting there, I know
This is my own decision
This is my own religion
This is my own decision
To practice my own religion
And I believe
I believe, oh, I believe
Trees Are Poems
Written by Mare Johnston © October, 2008 (inspired by a poem by Khalil Gibran)
Braided rope hanging from a tree
Knotted strong around a tire
The tire encircled little me
Acorns rained as I swung higher
Old bay laurel bears a chain
Beneath the bark around her breadth;
I work to loose the metal’s bite
Hear the old tree’s grateful breath
Chorus:
Trees are poems Earth writes on the sky;
You cut them down to make your paper,
It’s there that you record your emptiness
Conserved to visit after
Conserved to visit after
Willow, planted as a twig,
Your nurturing we share in
Shade and shield our little roof
And the two hearts twining therein
Walk among your books and listen
For the voices sleeping there
Between the lines, our sylvan sisters
‘Tis their whispers these pages bear
Chorus:
Trees are poems Earth writes on the sky;
You cut us down to make your paper,
It’s there that you record your emptiness
Conserved to visit after
Conserved to visit after
Where Once There Was a Lagoon (Instrumental)
This tune was written while reflecting upon Humboldt's (dire) future, and its romantic past. Inspired by the Yurok word oket'oh ("Where there is a lagoon"), this is a song for those who came before. While there are no lyrics, the composition is meant to evoke images of a pristine coastline, unsullied by human behavior. The absence of industry. Communion with nature. Canoes darting across the bay as determined fishermen compete with hungry gulls overhead.
Plugged Nickel - Fly Away (Sweet Bird)
We said our last goodbyes this morning there wasn't much that I could say. Just goodbye, good luck to you, I'm happy that I knew you. , and I'm sorry that you have to go away.
You gave me one last kiss this morning
You're gone now, but the sweet taste lingers on...on and on.
And I can't comprehend it, our love has really ended.
Once it seemed so right, I wonder what went wrong...yeah but.
I remember times we used to laugh and play.
Strange to think that it was yesterday.
You've got to find your own direction, go ahead and keep your date with fate, don't be late.
Gotta learn how to live, you gotta find what I couldn't give you.
'Cause life's too short and there's no time to wait.
But I'll remember times when we would laugh and play.
Strange to think that it was yesterday.
I wouldn't keep you from your future by asking for another chance.
If your heart can't hear the music, it's time to end the dance.
I hope you find a bright tomorrow and someone else to make you smile for a while.
Gotta do what you need to, ket your heart go ahead and lead you 'cause that's what's gonna make your life worthwhile.
But I'll remember times we used to laugh and play.
Strange to think that it was yesterday.
Fly away, fly away, fly away, fly away, sweet bird
There Is No Distance
Lyrics (or Link): There Is No Distance
Between a bird's eye and the north star
There is no distance
Between letting go and coming home
There is no distance
Between where you've been and where you are
There is no distance
Between Peace and tragic war
There is no distance
Between the ground and sky above
There is no distance
When there is love
Take down these walls
there's no possessions
take down these walls
there's no directions
take down these walls
they're built of fear
there is no far, there is no near
there is no distance
Take down these walls
There is no distance
For love is all
There is no distance
between you and me and them and us
There is no distance
what was then and what is now
There is no distance
between a human heart and wind blown dust
There is no distance
between asking why and asking how
There is no distance
between a crying hawk and a mourning dove
There is no distance
between boundary and illusion
There are no borders
In heaven above
There is no distance
Take down these walls
there's no possessions
take down these walls
there's no directions
take down these walls
they're built of fear
there is no far, there is no near
there is no distance
Take down these walls
There is no distance
For love is all
There is no distance
When there is Love
There are no borders
In Heaven above
There is no distance
When there is love

When California Burns © Marcia Mendels/Chris Manspeaker
Verse 1:
I woke up to the taste of smoke, burning in my eyes
I jumped up, heart in my throat, and looked out at the sky
There in the distance, one plume of smoke was all I needed to know
The dragon's awake and shaking her tail and breathing smoke
Chorus:
When California burns, the flames light up the night
When California burns, the smoke blots out the sky
Another day in the book of paradise, and I cry as the pages turn
There's a dragon roaming the land tonight.... as California burns
Verse 2:
When I was young, I loved to watch the lightning crackle and play
Now when the thunder rolls, I pray that it comes with rain.
Live in the city or in the hills, it doesn't matter who you are
Rich and poor, young and old, we're humbled by the fire.
Bridge:
Say a prayer for the men and women who fight
To lay that dragon down.
Say a prayer for those who watch their dreams
Burning to the ground.
Verse 3:
Walk through the forest after the fire is out
No sign or sound of life, just miles of blackened ground
I know it's the cycle of life and death, still I mourn the loss
Caused by man or nature's whim, it seems too high a cost
All That I Give Is Given To Myself
My dear friend
The gift I give
A wild flower
A loving shower
The gift I give to you
I give to myself too
Peace of mind,
we're all trying, my dear
to choose love over fear
so let me be clear,
I love you my dear.
Now some people say
when you give something away
you're bound to have less
but please, let me attest:
Peace Love and Forgiveness
will be our only business,
All that I give is given to myself
Soon I Won't Even Need The Bomb
James Zeller
I'm feeling better all the time, and soon I won't even need the bomb
I'm feeling braver all the time, and soon I won't even need the bomb
I'm feeling freer all the time, and soon, I won't even be American,
I'll just be who I am, and I won't even need the bomb
I'm feeling more hope every day, and soon I won't even need the bomb
I'm feeling more joy every day, and soon I won't even need the bomb
I"m feeling more Love every day, and soon I won't even be a Christian,
I'll just love everyone, and I won't even need a gun
Oh little child, I've been so afraid
Of the mess my generation made
I can't believe this day has finally come
and tomorrow, tomorrow
We won't even need the bomb
I'm crossing borders with my heart, and soon I won't even need the bomb
I'm breaking walls down with my love, and soon I won't even need the bomb
I'm full of so much self love, soon I won't even be a man,
I'll just be human, and I won't even need the bomb
-The Cleansing Rains of Gratitude-
verse 1:
Sailing on a gust of wind. Carry us into the sun. Burn away all of our mistakes. Vaporize all of our fears. Blown away by the breath of our Ancestors. Blow out the flames of industry. Acknowledge, accept, allow the cleansing rains of forgiveness.
verse 2:
Borne upon a gale of wind. Blown away into the sun. By the breath of our Ancestors (give us the answers). Blow out the flames of capital greed. Blow out the flames of burning trees. blow out the coal fires, carbon disease. Acknowledge, accept, and allow the cleansing rains of gratitude to fall.
Chorus:
Wash away our footprints, exfoliate our Mother's skin. Change our seasons, bring change from above. Sprout new seeds, new seeds of love.
Verse 3:
Soaring on a coastline breeze. Glowing from nuclear disease. How can we find the answers? Give us the breath of our Ancestors. Blow out the fires of colonial expansion. Blow out the flames that have scorched the innocent. Acknowledge, accept, and allow the cleansing rains of cognizance to fall.
Chorus x2:
Wash away our footprints, exfoliate our Mother's skin. Change our seasons, bring change from above. Sprout new seeds, new seeds of love.
Wash away our footprints, exfoliate our Mother's skin. Change our seasons, bring change from above. Sprout new seeds, new seeds of love.
Sailing on a gust of wind (give us the answers)
Carry us into the sun (give us the answers)
Burn away all of our mistakes (give us the answers)
Vaporize all of our fears (give us the answers)
On the breath of our Ancestors.
Stream No Shame
Sierra Rose Loucks
Win, lose
What else can you choose?
You can watch the wheel spin
You can read a fortune
Walk, run
Already been done
With your mind in your feet
As you walk up the street
But don't ask the teller
To tell you the weather
You're probably just a bug on her windshield
Just want it to stop
The doctor's lollipop
turns into whiskey to make you feel better
No shame
No shame
No shame
Win, lose
What else can you choose?
In the eyes of an eagle
Up on a plastic steeple
Walk, run
Just stick out your thumb
Movie on the highway
Is making it my way
Running in the race
With your mind out in space
Wonder when they'll come to take you away
Your walking shoes on
Singing your songs
Just happy they make you feel better
No shame
No shame
No shame
No shame, written in bullets on a street sign
No shame, in the contrails in the sky
No shame, tattooed on a lady's thigh
Bones can show the truth inside
No one left to blame
No shame
No shame
No shame
Win, lose
What else can you choose?
So pick up your plough
And let the wolves howl
Give, steal
Find a whole new deal
For chance to get high
The Money
Jarvis Lamoreux
Tell us that the rich aren't happy
Then we say give up the money
Tell us that there's corporate greed
Don't care what the people need
No matter if you're rich or poor
There's one world, there ain't no more
No matter if you're rich or poor
Tell us that the rich aren't happy
Then we say give up the money
Tell us that the rich don't think
That's why the environment stink
No matter if you're rich or poor
There's one world, there ain't no more
No matter if you're rich or poor
Tell us that the rich aren't happy
Then we say give up the money
Tell us that the world's a mess, then we say, hey!
Save the world one at a time
Children need our love and time
Save the world one at a time
Children, ask, why, why, why
For a piece of the pie
The key in your pocket
Made so you can lock it
Try to find the one that opened it up
You wanna come up
You bring everything down
It's killing you to make you feel better
No shame
No shame
No shame
No shame, win or lose it's just a game
No shame, to the sword it's all the same
No shame, make you feel like a king
No shame, take away everything
No shame (repeat)

Sailboat Blues by Frank Anderson
I'm going to buy me a sailboat, sell my house in town
I'm going to buy me a sailboat, sell my house in town
You know the way the oceans risin', my little house won't be around.
No need to worry baby, no need to fuss and fret.
No need to worry baby. No need to fuss and fret.
You just climb on board, and we can watch the sunset.
I didn't believe that it was coming,
But now I'm up and running,
I'm going to buy me a boat,
I'm going to learn how to float.
I'm going to buy me a sailboat, sell my house in town.
You know the way the oceans risin', my tiny house won't be around.
I'm going to live on the water, sail most every day
I'm going to live on the water, sail most everyday
I'm going to live on the water, sail most every day.
I'm going to live in this world, and sail my blues away
I'm going to live in this world, and sail my blues away.
Greenhouse Blues by Frank Anderson
Well the world is getting hotter, and you know it won't be long.
Before the ice caps are all melted, and all the fresh air is gone.
You know that I ain't jivin', this ain't the same old song.
If you listen to the fat cats, they'll tell you a bunch of lies.
But if you listen to the weather, you can easily surmise.
That the world is getting hotter, that ain't no big surprise.
If this problem don't stop growing,
We don't slow it down,
The rivers will stop flowing,
And we won't be around.
Because the world is getting hotter, and you know it won't be long.
Before the ice caps are all melted, and all the fresh air is gone.
Don't fool with mother nature, because she won't be denied.
You better listen to her message, or you'll be swept aside.
Because that greenhouse is a mean house, when there's a rising tide.
Because that greenhouse is a mean house when there's a rising tide.
T-Rex Blues by Frank Anderson.
When T-Rex was around, he put on quite a show
His mighty Bones are buried far below
Then I come along with my brain refined
It comes to Saudi crude, you know I lose my mind.
Well I just love to cruise
I've got the T-Rex Blues
Some people say that dinosaur
Wasn't very smart
100 million years
You know he's got to have heart
You can take your Saudi war, your jihad and your scam
Don't take away my big Dodge ram
Well I've just got to choose
I've got the T-Rex Blues
Takes a lot of bones
To make that oil flow
We pump it to the top
We've got to use it real slow
We've got to lose these blues
We've got to lose these blues
Someday we'll all get hip now
And lose the T-Rex blues
When T-Rex was around?
He put on quite a show
His mighty bones are buried
Far below
Then I come along
With my brain refined
It comes to Saudi crude
You know I lose my mind
Well I've just got to choose
And lose those T-Rex blues
Oh yes I've got to choose
And lose those
steadily increasing, going to be $7 a gallon and we don't know how to stop it.... T-Rex Blues.
