Vow From Hiroshima
WWTW will present Susan Strickler’s documentary The Vow From Hiroshima, an intimate portrait of Setsuko Thurlow, a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Her story is told through the lens of her friendship with a second-generation survivor, Mitchie Takeuchi. Strickler will join via Zoom from New York for a Q&A following the film. This film screening will be held on Friday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. at The Sanctuary, 1301 J St., Arcata.
Tickets are $10/adult; $5/student.
This film screening date is in accord with the 40th annual Arcata Lantern Floating Ceremony, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Klopp Lake, foot of South I St. The ceremony committee invites residents to decorate lanterns during the Arcata Plaza Farmers’ Market, 9-1 p.m. that day. Additionally, the Sanctuary will host lantern decorating during its Tuesday Art Nights, 7-9 p.m. in July. They will provide the lanterns along with decoration materials (one lantern per person while supplies last).
